Have you pushed the metal clip into the "O" ring and damaged it?

You might be able to buy the cap on its own if that's the case. Or just possibly get an "O" ring to fit.

But as far as I can see you have not embarked on solving electrical issues.

May have been better to call a boiler engineer!
