chinese diesel heater, (12V webasto style)

My car has one, fitted as an option. They work great.
Is it the Chinese junk modal in question or the German Webasto?
How long have you ran it for?

What is coiling it?
Running the fuel though a copper coil output of the heat output to pre heat the waste engine oil

My heater runs on 12v, draws around 20amps initially, when starting, for the glow plug, just to get it going. That drops down to just the few watts needed to run the combustion fan, and in my case, a water circulation pump. The water pump is needed, because it heats up the engine coolant, to pre-heat the engine.
Dose it have 2 heat out puts then, one air and one water? do you think over all on run time its less then 5amp?

If you intend burning waste oil, they usually suggest using it premixed, with diesel. Start it, get it going on diesel, then swap to a mix of diesel/waste oil. Maybe worth having two such heaters, one in use, one offline being cleaned and serviced, if you want reliable heat.

I occasionally hear of the exhaust rusting or cracking. Don't hear of other problems, even when 20 years old or more, despite constant exposure to wet, grit, and sometimes road salt.
20 years or more! well i doubt it the chinky modal then, more like the Webasco that was running
 
I have one, installed on the underside of my van converted camper. It's a cheapo Chinese one. Works fine though. I believe that the Eberspacher ones are a better brand although only going on what people have said in the forums.
Where did you buy it from and how long much running time have you had it?
 
My heater is a Webasto, and I love to listen to it start up - It begins with a low steady growl, then gradually, as it builds up to running heat, begins to whistle like a jet engine.
OK so you have the quality one and cannot speak for the internet of all new world orders!

Mine is a Vevor. We bought it direct, online.
We haven't used it a great deal tbh but it heats up nicely when we do. We'll run it for probably an hour, once a morning, if outside temp is near freezing.

They look like a UK based company so any warranty with it?
How much did you pay; water pump as well or just heater?

So how many amps do you think it uses when it is up and running then?

When you say the water pump pumps the radiator system of your car, dose the heater still pump hot air out? What about the electronics of the vans heater matrics, is that wired from van circuit or from the heater its self?

It maybe then draws around 1amp.

My Webasto heats the coolant, the coolant warm the engine, there is heat available in the heater water circuit, so if I turn my car's climate control system on, it will blow heat into the cabin, yes.

I don't know what van you are talking about...
 
The ones I hear about are factory fitted, with electronic controls and start up automatically dependent on ambient temperature and engine temperature. Owners of used vehicles are often bemused if they see smoke coming from under the bumper in cold weather as hardly anyone knows about them.

Yep, mine comes on at sub 14C, and remains on until the coolant reaches 73C, at which point it begins to modulate it's heat output, until it shuts off at 76C.

It never issues smoke, just a tiny bit of steam, for a few seconds, when it first starts.
 
I only hear about the troublesome ones, usually when the exhaust has rusted through.
