Yes you are right, I finally managed to get a copy of the instructions. They can be wired either way.I really don't know about this.

Certainly looks like the metal backplate you normally find to put inside a plastic enclosure to me.
Don't start on about the colour of the earth wire as this is clearly Chinese and not really meant for our market so does not follow our standards.
The two photos are different (look at the LEDs) but similar.

I just know that anything sold in the UK has to have the harmonised wiring colours in the mains lead
