Conservative vote winner?

2 different arguments.

If you want an effective reserve army, yoh should 1st choose those that want to be in it and will reach high standards.

At this stage it shouldn't be about just numbers. Quality is more important

Isn't that what I'm saying?

An alternative is mentioned
It said 18-year-olds would have a choice of either joining the military full-time for 12 months, or volunteering one weekend every month carrying out a community service.

An attraction that wont be this straight forwards - being able to choose the job and suitability etc
Under the plans, young people could choose a full-time placement in the armed forces or UK cyber defence, learning about logistics, cyber security, procurement or civil response operations.
Or
Their other option would be to volunteer one weekend per month - or 25 days per year - in their community with organisations such as fire, police and the NHS.

No.

You keep saying it's a good idea

If I thought it wasn't an empty promise.
And that it would work for the army (it wont) and the country.

I think far better encouraging with incentives.

But if it was enforced be because of the threat from the east then I'll be behind it.

For now we need to build a positive not a negative army.
