Damp: Ceilings off chimney breast

Thanks for your help Ree and Dan would you mind if I posted some photos on your thread mate?

Ree, why would it be bad news to render a stack or would it just be a waste of time and money? For the amount of water coming down I struggle to see how this could all be down to brick porosity.

Go for it mate, we’re all friends here

Thanks mate (y)

Here with some photos, the back gutter appears to fall the wrong way but not sure if that would really make much difference. The tiles out of alignment have since been pulled down. Hairline crack in the fillet by the pots has also been filled.

Apologies for the number of photos but not sure what may be relevant. Thanks for your help Ree.

So we’re about 4 weeks removed from our chimney being repointed and I’m pretty convinced it’s still getting worse.

I’ve scraped away some of the paint (found some mould where the paint layers had separated from the ceiling, lovely).

Most of the affected area was present on an internal wall (albeit at the corner). Any explanation for this? No pipes above etc.
