Data transfer from dead PC

I did this for my brother years ago. You might not be able to get the files out if you're using Windows and they are in a user Windows directory on the disk. I used a Linux boot up disk on my PC to then copy the files out.

You can always download and run a Linux mint live CD (if you have a drive) where you can then access the drive without the hassle of Windows security hassling you.

Do look at other similar enclosures on Amazon, especially those with some reviews.
I don't see a ribbon cable for the IDE drive in the pics so am assuming it is the "transfer wide line" in the contents list.
Best to email them and ask first - or choose another supplier and check with them.

Or ask around on your local Facebook, Freegle, Freecycle, Trashnothing groups etc.
Someone may have one kicking around to spare.

I have been given much advice. I shall now report back to my friend what his options are.

My thanks to everyone.
