Decking joist screw hole repair

Hi,

I’ve got a joist which has taken too many screw holes now.

Whats the best way to fill them without taking the board off?

Or is it a case of replace the part of the joist?
 
several choices
longer screws
bigger screws
knock through wood
are these proper decking screws that have been used
how deep are the joists
how old is the decking ??
can you get the screws out they may have just snapped so feel loose

I don't know what that is. A steel bracket?

Although you can drill out the holes and plug with hardwood dowel, I would probably drill through and use a stainless bolt or stud with flange nuts. Then you are not relying on the screw thread gripping in your second-hand hole. Stainless fixings are not expensive now, in small numbers. I do this on fence and decking now.

You could also sister the joist and fix to the new piece.

It’s using decking fasteners

The T shape ones with the screw through, it’s the same on that keeps coming loose.

Decking is a few months old, I’ve re screwed it 4 times now so no holes on the joist left.

Tried wood filler etc but can’t get it deep enough into the whole.
Tried a dowel but with all the other holes it keeps slipping.

It has screwed back in but it’s not fully locked right if that makes sense.

I can still turn the screw

Was going to try sawdust and glue next?

how deep are the joists
do you have a link to the system used iff its a non wood system ??

The fastener screws are a one size fits all. There just the right size to fit on the fastener
 
as an aside what have you used to drive them in??
its possible using an impact is the wrong tool as it can strip the grip off the thread

Drill on screw drive mode

And been hand screwing the loose one after trying filler today.
