does external lift shaft need pp or br approval?

I am building a lift from ground to first floor and hanging it off the side wall of the house. The lift platform is 1x1.2m and the shaft is to be constructed using SIPs. The top of the shaft will be in line with the eaves.

Do I need either planning or building regs approval for this - I can't find an external lift shaft mentioned in any of the literature.
 
It's an extension - and that's the legislation that will apply. The fact that it has a lift in it is irrelevant.
 
If you can move it to the back there's a high chance it'd only need building regs.
If you put it inside the house somewhere you might get away without building control involvement, but you'd be stretching it there.

... no, there's only one place it can go, so I guess I'll just have to go through the process - at 1.5 sqm, it's a very small extension :)

Impressive. For such a wise homeowner you'd have thought your skills would have stretched to a bit of googling for planning legislation.

@ freddiemercurystwin ... I didn't come to this forum for sarky condescension - I am not a planning/building regs expert and I hoped I might find some knowledge here beyond Google. Googling turned up nothing on domestic lift regulations; nor any building regs or planning law relating to interior or exterior lifts. The absence of a Google reference does not mean that such regulations do not exist, it could just mean one is just using different terminology in the search. Also, a 2013 reference does not tell you that the rules changed after it was written.

And wisdom has nothing to do with designing simple machines.

@ bernardgreen ... 220kg is the static load and I will come up with the dynamic load and safety margin when I've finalised the hydraulic mechanism.
