Doors on loft landing near stairs advice

It's standard building practice the door opens in a manner to maximise the privacy of the occupancy of a room. Been like that forever. Look at how your doors are hung in your house, no doubt you will see.

I know about it and have commented upon it. It's still an ancient old fashioned way of hanging doors. None of my customers prioritise modesty over practicality. Just a crappy nuance from the Victorian era.

Quite the opposite. There is always a conversation about door opening direction, prior to fitting casings on our jobs.
This is a standard response....

I’d always want the door opening against the nearest wall, as per the op, in order to maximise the space in the room.

Jokes Just to pipe in, all our doors are on the "maximise space / make it convenient" way round (I'm the designer as well as the fitter). Keep the door fully closed if you want privacy. The one specifically in my last image - doesn't really matter in this specific case.

Door 101

Doors should not allow viewing into a room if left slightly ajar, so you hang them according.

Doors should not open on to landings so you hang them accordingly.

Old school.
They insisted on this in gone days, for unknown reasons also in kitchens and living rooms.
Nowadays doors are hung to maximise space, or, as I do, accordingly to customer's instructions.

Two years on and still nearly getting round to doing this. I've now decided to open up the entire loft so I only need one door now. The door is preferably in the position in the image.

I just hope this is enough space to get large items round the corner, eg. mattress, 4x2s, stuff that a chippie might need to bring up? Or should I bring the door closer to the stair edge?

If you can go around the stairs winder, you're ok with whatever setup.
Keep the landing more or less square and you'll be ok.

I'm not sure if it's a law, or just an advisory, but I was once told that doors should never be openable at the top of a staircase unless an adequate landing is in place.
Many years ago, (1976 I think), i bought my first house. It was a two up-two down Victorian terrace. The stairs had winders at the top and bottom. The two adjacent bedroom doors opened onto the top winders. Many a time either my wife, or I, nearly took a tumble because of them.
I would leave the doors set back like in your picture, especially if you have/intend to have children.
