Down pipe, waste and drain confusion?

If it were me, I'd install as big a water tank for the rainwater as I could afford, under that clematis, so that I always have water available for the garden, with an overflow onto a veg bed/flower border/tree or another tank.

Thanks, it's quite rare that I need water in such a small garden, the rain is generally enough!
 
I would have a poke around at the bottom of where that pipe is, and see if there's any sign of a gulley or drain. If the neighbours goes into a drain then I'd expect yours too as well, assuming houses were built at the same time. Is there an inspection chamber anywhere around or under that patio?

Yeah I'll have to do a bit of digging. I don't know if all the houses were built at exactly the same time. I'm one house away from the end of terrace and the last two are very different and definitely newer.

I have t seen any inspection chamber, but I'm not sure what it looks like!?
 
Looking for a rectangular cover, usually cast iron, but can sometimes be plastic or concrete.

Unless you've a main public sewer with a large chamber underneath in which case it can be a heavy duty square, round or triangular cover...
 
See if the neighbours have one, then follow that in a straight line through your property, or if you know anyone with a metal detector, that could help. Water divining is also worth a shot, might give you the location of the underground pipe runs, if you can follow the stack run and see where that joins the main, see if there is anything there.
 
do you have any other rain water pipework, we had only one in 1904 semi that went into a drain and into the main sewage.
However in our current bungalow all the gutters go into soakaways, I had to replace the one in the front.
At that time the Neighbour spoke to us as he thought the gutters went into the sewage pipes running down our property. On
investigation I found that the sewage did BUT all his gutters also went into soakways however, He had been paying the local water authority for discharge of rainwater into the sewage. He got quite a reasonable refund for the 8 years he had lived in the property.
SO
you may want to look into that aspect

Thanks, well its just the gutters on the front of the house which seem to go into the sewage or some underground pipework. And then the one on the back which I posted. The neighbour did say hers went into the sewage, but she could be wrong. Maybe I'll ask her if I can have a closer look
