Gas Safe Work Placement

Onetap check your pm box (conversations) have you placed a restriction on who can send you a message?

PM sent.

I don't think there were any restrictions, but I've never used the conversations thing before.

PS
There was a restriction, now removed.

Hi onetap, I was going to give you their phone number so that your mate could discuss it directly with them, but as I couldn't PM you I therefore managed to speak with them and currently they are not taking anyone at the moment as they are already committed to a few newcomers to the game. Please accept my apologies, last time I spoke to one of them a month or so ago, they were both very busy with call outs and couldn't cope with number of call outs, and were like week's behind, winters are the busiest months for them.

so anyone else can help onetap's mate, by all means PM him, now his pm is unrestricted.

First of all it is important in the long term that we do train new people so that there is an adequate trained reserve of people.

Second, I don't take people from too close by.

Third they can be very helpful to take on some jobs which I don't want to do.

More recently one of them has emigrated to Spain and another to Bristol. They both refer London jobs to me now. Even if sometimes it results in more than I want to be doing.
So if you do not take them from too close by , how do they get experience ? do they meet you at the bus stop and they have a back pack too ?

They have to come to where I am going to, or meet me half way.

I have taken a few in the past for occasional unpaid work experience in order to obtain their portfolio.
Hi Agile I have come across your post and am enquiring if you would be willing to take on an apprentice who would be willing to do unpaid work to complete their portfolio?

Well I suppose that in theory I could.

But in practise I try not to do much work as I get older.

And I would be very unlikely to encounter the range of tasks which are required for a portfolio even in several years.

There is also another problem that an apprentice even if unpaid, is still an employee and should be covered by an employer's insurance policy and that could add several hundreds of pounds to the premium.

So my conclusion is that a medium sized firm that does a wide range of work would be the best place for anyone to get the work experience, But I would also doubt that many would be prepared to accept the bother unless it was as a part of an employment package. And most people who ask this question are hell bent on becoming self employed and working for themselves. And could become unwelcome local competition for anyone who has taken the trouble to train them.

Ok thank you for your time, I totally understand your position, It’s a real shame as I have completed the course and am eager to complete my portfolio and learn from a reputable engineer which is clearly yourself. However I understand your position and accept your response, I’m not considering to work self employed as I want to enhance my experience & practice & equally do not reside in your area, thank you for taking the time to respond. Have a good evening
