Hotpoint HUE61 Door Catch

Thanks to all - followed the description above and extra tips and it all worked perfectly, saving at least £100 in the process and getting the job done at a time to suit me! The only thing I would add is to be careful with the wires to the bulbs in the control panel - I found it easier to move the panel out of the way as far as possible and was aware of the cable to the clock/timer thanks to colinregan but inadvertently yanked the bulbs out of their holders in the process. The bulb holders were slightly damaged - everything went back together ok in the end but things were a bit delicate. Now to tackle the washing machine.........

I have the HUD61G model but it looks the same as your pictures. Is it the latch that needs replacing when the fan stops coming on when you close the door? I think that's what's going on with ours. It seems like the door drops more than it should, and I have to wiggle it lots to get the fan to kick in! Latch replacement? Do you think someone with VERY little skills could do this?? :)
 
The roller catch will not cause the fan to stop. You need the grill micro switch located just above the roller catch. If you press it in and the fan stops that's what's caused your fault. Same way of fixing it as the roller catch. Part no you need is coo117389
 
Even though this post is years old, it just saved me loads of time and money! I wouldn't have even attempted the repair without this guide. MANY THANKS!!!
 
Thanks to all for this thread. We have a Hotpoint HUE62, same catch, same process, except you only have to remove the control panel facia - it comes away after you remove the two screws underneath with a slight jiggle to the left. No wires exposed. Really appreciate the advice above - I think I would have dismantled a great deal more than was necessary otherwise. Catch cost £9.
 
I was quoted over £150 to get my roller catch replace! Thanks heaven I came across this thread. I am a woman and replace it in half an hour. The pictures and instructions were clear and so easy to follow.

Also want to say thank you very much. I wouldn't have even considered attempting this without such great instructions.
Took me about an hour and half including a fair bit of cleaning and hunting down screwdrivers. I reckon 20mins is a reasonable time to allow if you just crack on with it.

I'd like to add a couple of extra bits of info ..
1) when removing the screws on the front right hand side , you need to remove the 4(*) that are at the top on the silver metal behind the control panel. It's kind of obvious in hindsight, but the panel you are trying to remove has three obvious screws on the brown (our cooker is brown) metal. It took me a while to figure out I needed to remove the 4 right at the top. *Ours has 2 sets of 2 screws the photos seem to only have 2

2) I couldn't remove the right side panel, possibly I'd missed a screw. The front side came away far enough for my small hand to remove the old catch, and hold the new one in place while I screwed it in. So no need to completely remove the panel if yours is stuck.

3) We have the HUD61 model and like Noel the control panel needed a slide to the left, trying to wiggle it forward was fruitless. Again, a reminder to do this gently. I think I may have cracked some of the casings around the bulbs, though they seem to still work fine.a

4) A generic catch cost me just under £6 from a well known auction site....
 
Hi guys. Reading this thread - very informative. I am looking to change the front control panel of my HUG61, the grey enamel part as the top edge has started to rust quite badly on the top lip. Anyone know where I can one from??

My twopenny worth;

I have the HUE61
1. The advice given for the HUD61 about removing the control panel applies to the HUE61, slide it left and it will come off easily. The panel lights look rather delicate and brittle with age so handle with care.

2. I was unable to get the side panel right off at the back, but I would suggest leaving all the rear screws in and with the side panel out a few inches it is pretty easy to reach in and replace the catch.
