Two guys in my local have stage 4 prostate cancer. On, what happened to be my birthday, I had a GP appointment. In passing I mentioned that I am the guy in the pub that pees as slowly as the two fellows with stage four. He stuck his finger where no one has previously and determined that my prostate is not enlarged. I had a PSA test there after, but haven't heard back in the last 3(?) months- leading me to assume that there isn't, in their opinion, an issue.

I have however, at the age of 54, reached the stage where at very short notice, if I need a pee- I definitely need a pee. During lock down, I would sit on the bus and work out which alleyways didn't have gates

Should I just purchase a pair of wellies and wear somekind of plastic trousers?

As an aside, when I was a young teen, we used to play who can pee highest up the wall. Robin, bless him, used to be able hit the ceiling in the local garages. His hair would get wet, but we let him think he had won. He was happy...

Not because it's something that we like to air on public forums... :)

I'm nearly 60 and the same, I tend to sit down to pee now because it takes so long and I never know where it's gonna go.
15 minutes after a drink I have to go, so now I drink less - 1/2 glass instead of a full one.
Whilst I have not had the finger up the bum test for a long time I do get blood tests and they are fine.

Ring up and ask, or check your online record for the value of your PSA. Normally, if they think there is an issue, they will get straight to you, but check. Mine went high, triggered the scan and examination twice, then the PSA reduced to safe levels recently. It is natural, anyway, for your prostate to enlarge, and restrict the pipe, as you get older.

First thing on a morning, it's an endlessly slow trickle, once fully awake, the flow is good. I find that soon after emptying my bladder on a morning, I will need to go again. I enquired about it, and learned you have two ' taps or valves', one involuntary, the other under your direct control. The involuntary one, is the one which causes some people problem, where they cannot 'go', with anyone watching..

Strangely, I can drink pints of bitter, without getting the desperate urge to 'go', but take a sip of fresh orange....

PSA is a blunt measure in regard to prostate. High can be either a problem or not. Its just a trigger to further investigation. I did have a high reading and MRI and then my level fell. The consult with Urologist was with a spectacularly beautiful young lady consultant. Unfortunately, halfway through the consultation I was taken aback as that was not really my cup of tea so to speak.

I have similar issues. Took an age to empty my bladder.
GP - Finger. blood tests, PSA results all negative so diagnosed as enlarged prostate.
Prescribed Tamsulosin tablets which relaxes the muscles around the area so am now able to empty the bladder with strong flows.
Only side effect is firing blanks when ejaculating.

I used to be able to beat the flush - start peeing as soon as I flushed the chain and be finished before the flush stopped. If I tried it nowdays, I think I’d still be waiting to start by the time the flush has finished.

PSA test not that definitive certain areas are now going straight to MRI scans . My psa was 21 and im perfectly ok mates was 3 and in theory no further action but MRI showed cancer and spreading.
Phone and ask for your results

As you get older this is normal. Drink lots of water and cut down on caffeine if you drink a lot.

Almost 60 here (2 months time) and i have issues at times peeing. Had the dreaded finger a few months ago etc, all ok.

As some of you may know, I have been having UTIs regularly.

I went away to NZ several weeks ago. I started having a UTI the day before I was due to fly out.

While we were there, I had to go to see a GP as it was coming on again. She tested me and said an infection shower up immediately. She prescribed a 10 day course of Nitrofurantoin, which I was still taking when we flew home on 10 May.

I haven't had anything since, touch wood.

My GP at home thinks this is not entirely a UTI issue.

He thinks there could be an issue with my prostate, possibly prostatitis, which the Kiwi doc also mentioned as a possibility.

My PSA has always been fine, as has the results of my "digital examination".

I have finally managed to make an appointment with the GP for the 17th June to further the investigation.

When I don't have a UTI, I sometimes get urgency and sometimes need to wait before peeing, but only a few seconds. Sometimes, I get an urge to go but if I leave it a minute, it will disappear.

Weirdly, if I'm sitting down, I can drink two or three pints of water and not have any need for the loo, until I get up, then I need to go.

I can't remember who said in this thread that they are cutting down on their fluid intake.

My Dad had bladder issues and drastically cut down his daily fluid intake and stopped at 6pm.

He ended up dying of kidney failure.
I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
So please, please, please see a doctor for further tests.

I don't mind talking about my prob's.

Had the over 60's 'MOT' some years ago. The Blood test for that (I now know questionably) showed high Cholesterol - that I've managed that down by diet to acceptable levels - from 'Borderline to OK; however declaring that has made my travel insurance unnecessarily expensive. My hematopathologist sister then told me any Blood test that includes a test for Cholesterol shall/must be a 'Staving' one - i.e. nothing to eat and no milk based drinks for at least 12 hours before the taking of the bloods.

My local medical facility puts the results into a Spreadsheet format, one sheet per factor tested for, that spreadsheet is updated every time my bloods are tested.

Earlier this year I had blood test for an infection, the doctor to review the results went through the sheet with me to spot that my Cholesterol was now back to normal, the infection was clear but my PSA level had doubled since my last blood test, around 15 months ago. My PSA changed from 2.4 to 4.8 in the time - regarded as an aggressive increase. Because of that we discussed my weeing performance, my ladies fun stick performance and so he decided a 'Digital'* examination would be helpful. The doctor wasn't happy and so put me forward for an MRI. Had that which showed up a problem and so from there had a biopsy - 20 samples taken of which 18 showed cancerous.

*Yes, that means the (gloved and lubricated) finger up the back passage.

Now on a treatment path for Radiation therapy to take place later this year, presently taking Hormone tablets to 'shrink' the prostate. All occurred in less than 3 months.

I'd say it's a worthwhile question when you have a periodic blood test. Do ask if the hematology department checks and reports on all functions.
