Lock Picking

But using that is criminal damage, and the clamp owner can come after you for compensation. If you unlock it without damaging it and then relock it around a lamppost or something so that it can't be nicked there is not a thing they can do. I did read once that there are locksmiths who are well aware of all that and are happy to come out and release you and charge you less than the clampers would.

How would they prove it?

I have one that I cut off at home, had it a few years, no come back what so ever. Anyway, isn't clamping illegal now?

Hmm.

I suppose they couldnt. I was assuming that theyd have a record of your reg number and could therefore get your address but then theyd need to get the police interested in investigating?

Is clamping illegal?

You'll have flog it for potential escapes to hone their lock picking skills:ROFLMAO:

Local authority, the police or the DVLA are the only ones allowed to clamp

It is a criminal offence to clamp/block/tow away a vehicle on private land without lawful authority. Lawful authority to immobilise or move a vehicle is restricted to a number of organisation such as the police, DVLA and local authorities. ... Therefore, clamping your own car to prevent theft would not be an offence.
