I can still only see six of the original eight. Strangely, the runt of the brood is still there. Look at the size of it on the left compared to one of the others on the right.

Down to five now. Where are they going?

is mum taking the dead ones away?

or has something got in?

is the hole too big? it looks large in your pic.

is there a perch?

Last year the hole was big enough for a Starling to pop his head in. I fitted a plate over the original hole with a smaller (28mm) hole for this year. No perch inside or out. No dead chicks found on my patio although if they did drop a dead one out, a predator may have taken it. I’m pretty sure it’s not big enough for a predator to get in. I can only assume one of the parents are taking the dead ones out. I may position one of my CCTV camera's on the outside of the box. I’m wishing I didn’t have a camera in there now.

Still five this morning so counting my blessings. While watching the mother feeding them, I saw the funniest thing. I initially thought one had changed colour from blue to pink but it had literally buried its head into the brood and put its bum in the air. The mother looked at its bum and a big white poo came out of it. The mother got hold of the poo sac before it was even fully out and as soon as it was, she flew off with it to deposit it away from the box.

Always raises a laff :-)
