Is it really?? So you mean the felt on the roof or the loft insulation? Again sorry we’ve only just moved in so this was done by previous owners and we’re just trying to get to the bottom of the problem
its dark and difficult to see but the rafter tails seem to "bulk out" at the wall plate? it could just be shadow or the angle of the pic but thats how it appears on my screen.
if what i think are large openings at the eaves then i'd say totally push the excess insulation to block them off, and then wait and see, occasionally checking the loft for condensation.
fwiw: a view from outside at the fascia/gutter might show the felt has been stopped well short of projecting over the gutter.
perhaps the eaves were originally built to take a soffit but it was not built with a soffit?
by modern Regs you need another approx 100mm of insulation.
The felt on the roof, type 1f..tar felt! Non breathable, modern membranes are breathable.
Regardless, can still function perfectly well if cross ventilation is maintained.
Does the top of the insulation feel damp?
Update..had a loft guy out and it not condensation or the loft sweating. There is plenty of ventilation up there. Anymore guesses?? Could it be the soffits or facias leaking? Thanks for all your help so far
Hi sorry john no we don’t dry washing in the house. I trust the loft guy he’s been doing insulation’s for years on all sorts of lofts and he’s a mate so wouldn’t bullshit me
