New car for learner

Thanks but insurance is not so much of a problem in year 1 as they are learners.

I think the video referred to in "Chainsaw_Masochist's" post refers to either to old (pre-2012) Kia engines or the 2021 (and onwards) MILD hybrid engines which have (reportedly) been problematical. I have a 2020 Kia Niro and this is my second Kia. Both have performed flawlessly engine-wise.

Except that he is referring to 50 cars at the dealers with the same problems. 50? At a single dealer? That is not simply a failure of the dealer - this must surely result in a manufacturer's recall & repair and for Kia to have done otherwise would appear to just be sweeping the issue under the carpet. In addition, the comments below the video are hardly a litany of ringing endorsements, are they? As the guy says, this looks like as if the DVSA/trading standards should have stepped in and resolved the matter. Whilst one does not wish to **** on anybodies chips, based on this guy's experience it would appear that the average bog-roll has more value than the Kia 7 year warranty.

My youngest is 17 and learning to drive. He's in my daughter’s old Mazda 2, which is a 2010 car, and it's the petrol 1.3. Basically a Fiesta of the same era, but not quite. It has proved spectacularly reliable, but unfortunately, it's the mighty 84 bhp version of the 1.3, so we're expecting eyewatering insurance quotes once he passes his test! Also, if it hasn't been suggested yet, a Kia Picanto.

It appears to be the hybrid model ?

The 7 year warranty as far as I am concerned is generally very effective to all the Kia's that I have known that have needed such attention.

I am not an EV or hybrid specialist, but I would suggest that Kia are amongst the better of the lower to mid range spectrum of cars out there.

And No, I do not own 1, or have ever owned 1.

When my eldest passed his test, he wanted a car. As it happened, my Mum's next door neighbour was quitting driving and had a 52 plate Mitsub Space Star. She kindly gave it to us.

It needed a good service, a timing belt and tyres all round. Oh, and a CV boot.

Then there were a few bits that were broken in the cabin. A pair of sun visors, a wiper stalk and a driver's door switch unit for the windows and a battery.

Seems a lot of wear and tear for a car that had only done 79K.

Come MOT time, the emissions were cronky but we threw a bottle of stuff in the tank and drove it round the M60.

Another MOT it needed a shock on the front.

Regarding the wipers, I still have to pluck up courage to pull things apart and see what the issue is.
Basically she thought you were a scrap collector :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Op, stay away from Fiat!

C1 or variation post test was £540 for a year as owner on a social only policy @ 17 - if they are in full time education you don't need commuting as that's only to a place of work not study. Central Bristol postcode with ULEZ compliance. Second year was £425.

Buy one with a leaky boot easy to fix and especially buy one with the engine management light on, new cat is £90 copy part ebay and about 1 hours work.

I bought a Hyundai i10 for my daughter some years ago, it's a great wee car. It's 15 years old now and it's now owned by my next door neighbour who thinks it's the best car in the world, he's nearly 80.
My daughter now has an i20 and it's been great, too.
Snapish my boy had a cheap I20.
Think last year he paid 145 a month no black box 1st year of driving. Has gone up this year!! Even with ncb. Someone drive into side him
Loads of quotes best bet and don't expect say £2k 1.2 corsa be the same as on paper the same £2k 1.2 corsa

Thats apparently because they cannot reinsure the risk in under that period, so there is a reduction for policies with a longer lead time.

The other one is only one additional driver unless that has changed.
3 was out of the norm so went up
I went on mum's 406 years ago with 6 points and reduced her premium. Went to put her on wife's fiesta with me already listed put premium up!!

Believe it or not, the FIAT 500 could be a reasonable buy.......dead simple layout, easy to work on and totally conventional.
They don't rust any more than their competitors, in fact quite a bit less!
John :)
