Hello.

I bought a flat a few month ago, but I cannot figure out how to get heating.
I have gaz, and the Combi boiler (Ideal logic combi 30) is working for hot water, but not for heating.
The boiler always display "0" which apparenlty means that there is no current demand.

I set up the remote thermosat ( Ideal PRT 2, seems to be the same as here ) to max temperature and on at all time but nothing happens.
I beleive that it is not communicating properly with the boiler. The part of the boiler that is connected to the theromsats is also blinking red

I tried to reset both the boiler and the thermosat wihout any difference.

I also tried phoning up Ideal, but after advising me to turn everything on, they said that they would need to send me a technician for over 230£, and that I would be refuded of half of it if i couldnot fix it... Given how little they tried to help me, that does not seem like a great deal.

I also checked the valves underneath, as advised in this post, but everything seems set up right.

If anyone could help me, that would be much appreciated

Thank you for your reply.
I don't beleive the link provided match the thermostat I have
Comparing the pictures I provided and the one if the PDF, it seems to be different devices.

There is a small black button on both the thermostat and the boiler ( i beleive to reset them) and I tried pressing both at the same time in hope of syncronising
After pressing the small black button on the botton part of the boiler the light stop flashing red for a bit but eventually came back.

your thermostat and receiver have not paired, make sure you have good quality alkaline batteries in the PRT 2, then turn the thermostat to its lowest setting and leave for 10 seconds then turn it up to max and leave for ten seconds and see if the light on the receiver goes green

Thank you everyone for your replies.
Log story short, the theromstsats and the boiler now seem connected but I still dont have heating

I have tried putting brand new batteries, then pressing the reset button, then seeting the tempreature to the lowest setting, then setting the temperature to the highest setting.

This definitely made a difference, as now instead of flashing red rapidly all the time, it is either continuously red, or turned off with frequent red flashes.

I beleive I managed to find the notice for the Receiver here
According to the instructions:
  • When the room thermostat is on and the room temperature is less than the set point then the light on the front of the receiver on the boiler will be continuously on.
  • When the room thermostat is off the room temperature is less than the set point then the light on the front of the receiver will turn off, but will flash interminttently (the flashing indicates that there is successful communication between the thermostat and the boiler).
  • It may take 5 minutes for the room thermostat to send an "on" and "off" signal to the boiler
So it deems like the receiver is now connected to the theromstats, which is great
However after 10/15 minutes the radiators are still stone cold, even when the light is continuously red :(

No it is not connected , when connected the light becomes green
Are you sure ?
Because when i set the temperature to 30°, the light remain red, and when i set the temperature to 20° or lower, the light is off, with 2 blinks every few s econds, This seems to match the decription of the guide:

  • When the room thermostat is on and the room temperature is less than the set point then the light on the front of the receiver on the boiler will be continuously on.
  • When the room thermostat is off the room temperature is less than the set point then the light on the front of the receiver will turn off, but will flash interminttently (the flashing indicates that there is successful communication between the thermostat and the boiler).

Nothing in the manual mention red or green light, and I've only ever seen it red

Have you tried moving the thermostat closer to the boiler to see if it works then. With some RF thermostats, the signal between the two devices can be poor if there are obstacles such as metal objects between the two such as a large fridge / freezer which can prevent proper communication.

Yes, i made a point of leaving the theromstat just next to the boiler to make sure nothing is blocking.
On the manual it also says that "(make sure you are not holding the room thermostat as this can interfere with the communication link to the receiver)" but it does not seesm to make a difference

Have you tried a manual override? I think it may be the button on the receiver, push it in and see if that does anything.
