Outdoor patio base options

Exactly what you have is perfect. Raising it would be really silly.

If you really want this then perhaps decking is just about acceptable, but even that is a botch.

Put away the style magazines, stop following the herd!

I appreciate what you're saying but I've just spent £12000 putting huge bifolds in and 7 months redoing the whole kitchen bespoke and from scratch and building a new WC to make it open plan so I'm not going to put the style magazines away now.

I was planning on having the tiles sitting slightly above the cill going halfway up it as picture.

Am I on the right lines?
No. Do not do that. You'll damage the cill and what happens when there's some flooding/inundation/wind driven rain etc? It will come into the house. And that space gap behind will do nothing

At max, you could do what is shown on the left. You need to accept having a step down from inside

Expect major issues if you ever sell the place. Surveyors will be all over it, the buyer will want £5000 off to put it all right again.

If you've done it all from scratch why did you not plan this in advance?

I have a new build with level thresholds and the walls are double DPC'ed at those locations. I'm presuming if you want a level threshold you'll also need a DPC higher as well.

Hi. I did ask the builder that knocked the hole in the wall if it would be possible and he did say it would be by using different methods to obviously hit the standards. It's now almost the time when I'm ready to do this part. I don't really see what more I could have done to 'prepair' for it as the only Structual work was having the 6m bifolds fitted.

When I say from scratch I kinda meant internally building the cabinets from raw materials, doors, tiling, moving the WC, etc.

If I do say so myself it looks pretty good and the level tiles outside (which I've already bought) would set it off perfectly.

I need to do much more research and reread Yorkshires posts. In theory I didn't seem a major thing to me as the slab wouldn't be touching the house and the tiles only bridging across to the door cill but I understand it is more complicated than I first thought.

This is the original image I saw which made me think it was possible and shouldn't be too tricky.

He did put in a strip of DPC actually in the new blockwork. On the far right of my first image. I believe it was either above or below the single course of bricks above the first block that was laid. Would that count as a double DPC? It obviously didn't go further than the new 400mm wall that he built either side.
