Indeed not :-) - but it's not day/night we're talking about. If one lives 'in the wild' (in a part of the world which has seasons :-), it's not too clever (efficient) to be giving birth in the depths of winter.

Most of what we have requires, shorter day's as if winter time has cometh.
This begin's follicle development and increases greater fertility in the male's -
As the days start to increase you get mating, which lead's to Egg's or off spring in a time of warmth and plenty -
It's just the same as most living things, spring/summer = Young and food sources ;-)

We offer a shift in light throughout the year, to try and recreate a normal year.
Much like the Vivarium temperatures change, again to increase fertility.
Even on the equator, there are slight shift's, such as wet season's and cooler night's ;-)
 
Polar bears have built in duvets, But still follow an inbuilt clock - Just trying to follow as normal a light pattern as possible - Has Ban - All - sheds got a working photo cell switch diagram I could use?
