plasterer damaged my window sill

Window board should have been painted before plastering if already fitted . Up to home owner to protect floors etc , never known a plasterer to do anything other than plaster .

I plan to get my hall plastered soon and will ask the plasterer what floor covering he wants me to use. The same with other areas that I don't want plastered, I'll protect them as the plasterer specifies.
I know that if I don't cover any area it will get dirty and covered in plaster.

I expect it wouldve paid to have painted the windowboard prior to plastering (y)

Echo the comment about protect your own floors and about painting woodwork before plasterer gets at it- both lessons learned the hard way :)

Learn from it and fit after plaster in future, like anyone else does.

Really?

I wouldn't dream of skimming before the window boards go in. Always skim up to the boards, that way you end up with a properly installed/fitted look, rather than an after-thought.

I've worked in commercial construction for the last 10 years and I don't think I can ever remember a time where the joinery went in first unless it was a cock up, with the exception of door jambs/linings.

Linings go in, plasterer then comes in works up to those. Joiner returns to fit architrave, skirting, sills, any border rails.

It just makes more sense to me, you say skim up to the boards, that reveal for example, if you're beyond the line of the sill any decent joiner can scribe to the plaster, no mess to worry about afterwards, decorator comes in primes everything in one go.

Infact it's more common to see now pre-finished joinery, in this case it clearly wasn't finished, imagine the hassle of leaving a finished surface like that.

Eh, WTF!

Stick to gardening boyo, you are clueless about building.(y)

When I want advice on digging holes, I'll come to you, until then what you suggest means as much to me as the **** you pull out of them.

Window boards are always fitted (and sometimes sealed) prior to plastering.

You are out of your depth and very wrong on this one boyo. Quit embarrassing yourself now.

Not always no.

You can do it how you like and as OP has found out it's more trouble than its worth.
