A husband and wife from Aberdeen aim to drive from the Arctic to Antarctica in an electric car.

Chris and Julie Ramsey will set off to travel 17,000 miles (27,000km) from the Magnetic North to South Pole this week.
Their vehicle will be powered for much of the trip by solar and wind energy.

The couple will navigate into Canada, then head south through the United States and into warmer temperatures in South America over the space of 10 challenging month, [then] travel through Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

And coming from Aberdeen, they will take supplies of the humble buttery - the famous long-lasting local delicacy made of lard, butter and sugar, which is also known as a rowie or Aberdeen roll - to help keep their strength up.

(Michael Palin is available for consultation.)

To help keep their strength up? Did I miss the bit where it said they were going to walk?

Hopefully they have seen 'Long Way Up'. Should have some charging points available still/maybe.
Wonder how they are going to navigate some of the more dangerous parts of the route (bit of Mexico and the Darién Gap).

good luck to them!

And they're orff...

It looks like it could tackle the Dakkar rally with ease!

I saw 'Long Way Round' in '07 and thought their trip through Siberia was completely mad. They spent a great deal of time pushing the bikes through all kinds of weather. At least this car will have a better chance of keeping dry. Those tyres are a metre wide!
I don't get the hate towards electric cars. The standard battery of the souped-up version in this vehicle will give you a range of 320 miles: Clarkson's Mustang could only manage 140 miles before it needed a refill.

I don't hate EVs.

Clakker's Mustang - no-queue fuelling everywhere, another 140 miles in 5 minutes tops.

Battery swaps, or hydrogen fuel cells, for me anyway.
