Is there an official, e.g. ISO, definition of how long a "moment" is?

If not then this:

is unacceptable, because it is undefined and imprecise.

Why are you against precision, accuracy, and unambiguity?

BTW, John - are you (or indeed is anybody) aware of any application or system which records timestamps against log entries, accesses, updates etc and plays them back as "yesterday", or "a moment ago" etc?

If not, would you like to think why that might be?

It seems that a moment is less than a minute.

But if it has no proper definition then it is an improper term, and it must not be used. It really is that simple.

So, it's all there if you want it - but I imagine that only someone with a 'forensic interest' in old posts would be too concerned about any of this

Well, FWIW, if you hover your cursor of the date and/or time (however it is displayed) what appears in the pop-up is "the same information to be displayed in the same way on every single post. Consistent. Logical.", whether the message was posted 10 seconds, 5 days or 10 years ago.

So it's OK for you to complain about having to do an extra mouse click because post previews don't work in the way that you would prefer, but rational complaints about an irrational timestamp system can be brushed aside by telling people to invest in extra mouse movements.
