An easy one, then. Why do halogen light bulbs burn brighter than normal incandescent bulbs?
The Quartz Halogen cycle - keeps the tungsten reprecipitating on the filament and not the envelope, so it can stay hotter without the envelope going black.
 

Yes. If you ran a normal tungsten filament bulb as hot as a halogen, the filament would evaporate away very quickly and the bulb would die. The halogen gas prevents the tungsten filament from evaporating away, so you can use a much higher temperature, and it will still last two or three times longer than a normal bulb.
