R REG ESCORT 16LX

I was in the motor trade, I must admit however most of my experience was on commercial vehicles. My main experience with cars was limited to a spell owning a breakers yard (8years). My last venture in the motor trade was in car breakdown and accident recovery.

I changed into commercial property letting a while back due to neck problems. I am now semi-retired. (cos you don't need to be there to get your rent!)

I do agree with you and understand what you say about triplex dots, we used to get more for full glass sets from later cars. We also got more for any third party or non recorded cars.

We have talked about some of this before and sporty may like to read our comments here.

and also here.

I also know that any self respecting ringer takes a long time to find the donor. They match year/colour/model/trim etc. Unless they are real amateurs which should be easy to spot.

Although this sort of event would probably not happen to us, if it did, we would both keep our mouths well shut.

If you are thinking I am demeaning your comments you are mistaken, that is not the case.

Where I disagree is that sporty is probably worried now and we both know there is probably no reason to be.

BTW sporty If you bought the car off a dealer rather than private, it would be worth checking with HPI.

We were only giving opinions and not facts so it's to be expected that there will be disagreement which is ok by me. There may be others reading this who did not know about the Triplex dot code so it could be useful for them in the future.
I would like to say I didn't intend to worry sporty, but he asked for opinions and he got mine which was a serious comment.

No problem.

To be honest the glass would in most cases date a vehicle.

However I once spoke to a police mechanic at the stolen vehicle compound in M/cr. He told me they don't take much notice of any numbers on parts that are quite easily replaced. In the case of glass you could just say it was all broken by vandals and replaced with used. They couldn't prove if this was right or wrong, so don't even bother with it.

I noted down the dot thing from an MG website after reading this, will be checking out my car (just for fun 8) ). I think this could be the new trainspotting, wander around car parks checking the glass is dated correctly for the numberplate

It's just an additional check if you're buying used. If the glass date was wrong it would make you may look a bit closer?
I think it is only Triplex as well.

I didn't know about the month dots. I've just checked my car which is a Aug 1st '91 Escort and the glass says June '91 which sounds about right.
We learn something everyday. (Now where's sporty?)

well thanks for all your replies "very interesting comments" having further investigating the vin plate is all intact and no signs of tamper/ the vin/chassis n0 which is stamped on the floor near the drivers seat is all ok and fine ! it just seems to good to be true a bargain and maybe i'm a little paranoid and thinking the worst but i never drop on a bargain and we assume there must be something not right with it? as for the etching on the windows i'm still no wiser :?

hiya...lookslike this///

XXXTriplex
toughned
.
g

43r-0004

then more numbers...................

then yg---18

were the dashes are above there is 3 numbers before the 18

hope this helps! :?

Even more confused now!

Are you saying the YG---18 is part of the window numbers?

Or are you saying they are etched in the glass away from the triplex name and having a sandblasted appearance? Which is what we would mean by etched.

correct yes this has been etched (sandblasted) away from the embossed xxx information to be precise about an inch and a half away from the embosses info i was just curious what this meant !
cheers

I think this may be a ford commision number, however I am not sure so welcome other comments.

In the absence of further suggestions I would try the Ford Escort Owners Club or even Ford themselves.
