Replaced an outside light, what is best to seal it with?

Yeah, it is failing. :(

It's 10 years since I picked up a pair of cutters in anger and many more since I last used that compound!

And using insulation tape round connectors is bad practice. The box itself is the containment. Sticky tape adds nothing but sticky.

The light fitting, if new, should be manufactured to be waterproof.

Though the cable seals can sometimes end up having a larger than necessary hole - when you poke the cable through the cheap ones can split.
