Replacing silicone sealant

I would anticipate up to an hour (or more) to remove the old silicone- using very sharp chisels that will not damage the resin. Then another 20 minutes to wash it down with isopropyl alcohol (or meths), vacuum and brush down, removed missed silicone, before repeating. Then £8 for a new tube of silicone. It is two hours of labour plus materials to do it properly (minimum).

Or you can get someone who won't remove the traces of the (previously) badly applied stuff for a fraction of the cost.
 
My guess is the problem is not the silicone but the lack of silicone behind the uprights.....
