Rsj – u-beam sizes in full renovation

its difficult to work out the load exactly, but it has approx. 15-17Lm of standard stud 12mm plasterboard partition at 2.4m in height.. included in this are 4 doors, which i would imagine comes into the partition load does it? included in the load would be the usual domestic living housing items, 3 beds, bedside cabinets, the bathroom items..

also Tony, is the 152x152x37 uc stronger than the 203x133x30 u beam?

The 152UC37 will be able to take a higher bending stress than the UB before it failed, but the UB will have less deflection than the UC. But unlikely either of these will be critical for these spans and normal domestic loading.

To get the minimum practical beam - which is always a compromise between cost and serviceability - you need to show your SE a sketch of where the partitions are, and the position of the well. Also to suggest that the beam is continuous over the two spans. If you cannot get one long length in easily, your SE can detail you a bolted splice connection so that the beam can be installed in two lengths and bolted together insitu.
