Ryobi RLT26CDS - Not starting - Air bubbles in return

Got proper fuel in it now and new plug. It fired but runs for 5 odd seconds then cuts out so engine not seized.

Also dies on full throttle. Need to try and keep it running and gradually increase to full throttle see if I can keep it running.

Was frustrated before. It's even more frustrating now it has ran but won't keep going.

May buy new carb in next two hours if not running right by then.
 
Try juggling with the choke to see if it will run on full throttle......I would guess there's still a small blockage somewhere.
Are there any adjustment screws on the carb side? Set each one a turn out from fully in. Some carbs have a funny screw profile, which needs a 'pacman' screwdriver to adjust them.

Think I messed around with the needle valve too much.

I don't have a pacman socket just checked.

I've never messed with them and it was fine before so I am guessing I shouldn't have touched the needle valve.

I looked at it again and tried bending lever all the way out and as close to parallel to body as possible.

It cannot lie parallel to body as spring stops it from doing that.
 
Just regarding those adjustment screws....if there are two, they should be marked L for low and H for high speed adjustment. Its usually necessary to unscrew and remove them, keeping them in order, whilst carb cleaning is carried out.
Normal slotted screws are dead easy, but the pacman type do need the special tool.
Some carbs have no adjusting screws at all, just to add to the mystery!

I've been out and got a pacman screwdriver but still not joy.

I've lost the will to live to be honest. 10 hours wasted! I've just blasted Ryobi on Twitter. They really are a piece of sh*t as a brand. Apologies if this offends ir breaks forum rules but I really have lost the plot!

My neighbours must be upset. The air was very blue earlier. I have two bleeding fingers from the pull cord. I am so pee'd off.

I even started stripping it down to try and access the crankshaft so I could use a drill to start it as a certain video on YouTube.

Where's that Stanley knife?

got the same issue here.
i have got a new carb (cleaned out the original one too)
spark coming thru (when i have connected spark plug to cabling and spark plug is not connected)
new fuel lines
new fuel filter on end of fuel line
petrol coming into bulb when pressed and flows back ok
have tried to adjust L and H but get a combination of either it doesnt fire or splutters out when i accelerate
i have noticed that the spark plug is black wet it seems, so i have to clean it every so often but not sure if this is the cause
i have tried another spark plug also but still same issues as above.

wondering if im missing something else to check that is blocked/clogged
using a 1:50 mix also so sure everything is as shud be
used to work last summer just to add. fuel was left in the system but using a new fresh mixture.
 
I think your first move should be to pop the plug out, turn the machine so the plug hole is downwards and pull the recoil starter a few times just to clear any residual fuel in there.
Then, set both screws to one full turn only from fully in and try again.
It does sound as if you have excess fuel at the moment - especially if the plug is black.

Hi couldn’t find my spanner to remove the spark but got the strimmer to start consistently by pressing the accelerator with the choke switch down - opposite direction of when I press the lever - starts ok but every time the carb flap opens, it starts to cut out. I’ve tweaked the screws but still didn’t stay on when choke switch went to normal position. I will try removing the spark plug tmrw and tip up and pull the cord.

Throw it in the bin and buy a stihl. It's what I did with a ryobi petrol hedge cutter after similar issues. Vowed never to buy cheap chinese petrol engined stuff again.

Hi John, a trickle of fuel came out when I took out the plug and pulled about 10times. Plug was kind of wet black. Put back in and still the same after I cleaned up spark plug. Even starting with the accelerator pressed and carb flap closed it still didn’t start up.

Binning it isn’t an option as I can’t really afford a stihl!
 
Apologies for the late reply, I'm cruising the Med right now!
Always start a two stroke with the throttle wide open and in your case I'd try with no choke as there is fuel in there already!

So I’ll try that but always the case when I switch to run mode, the engine splutters and cuts out, only runs when the choke is on/carb flap closed.
It did start consistently when I had my hand on the throttle and choke forced on, but last time I tried after I did the spark plug removal and upside down handle pulls, it wasn’t doing much.
Will give it another bash later on today/this week.
 
When I took my pig-cow ryobi hedgecutter to our local garden machinery place, he wouldn't touch it, but did say that they set them up so weak for emissions purposes that after a while they just don't run properly. He showed me on mine where the jet controls were - they were just blanks, but he said if you cut a screwdriver slot in them they are adjustable. I tried that (using a dremel) and for a while did manage to get it running better, but it also gave me white finger after 15 minutes. In the end, I hated it so much I bit the bullet and got a decent machine - in this case a battery Stihl which does all my hedges with capacity to spare!
