New Forum Help Search term syntax

Here is a break down of what's available:

+ to require a term (which is the default, so not required unless doing something more complex than a basic search)
- to exclude a term
| meaning 'or' e.g. metal|wood
" quotes to allow phrase searching e.g. "metal pipe"
Something is wrong.

http://www.diynot.com/diy/search/4867391/?q=sievert&o=date gets 16 results
http://www.diynot.com/diy/search/4867422/?q=seivert&o=date gets 1 result

But trying sievert|seivert gets no results. Should be 17 of them Doesn't even show a "http://www.diynot.com/diy/search/.../?q=sievert|seivert&o=date url as having been constructed.

It would appear that there needs to be a space between the terms; so sievery | seivert returns results containing both variations.

Interesting.

Trying the example you gave:

metal|wood works, and gets 180 results.

metal | wood gets 123.

Given 4 terms, let's name them A, B, X & Y, how do I search for posts containing either A or B and either X or Y?
This is still an outstanding question.

I want to search for posts containing

Either LED, or CFL or fluorescent

AND

Either glow or flash or flicker.

How do I do this?
