That didn’t take long

diy_fun_uk comment was based in the current time, as were other similar claims.

There is no indication that having several children is a current strategy of gaining extra income.

In many countries there is no such thing as child benefit, but there are still large families. So what's going on there?

According to the popular belief, countries that have high cild benefit payments should have high birth rates.
But that isn't the case.
Norway's birth rate is 1.55
UK's birth rate is 1.56
But Norway pays way, way more in child benefits, with a population of just 5,000,000 people.

Large families looks much of a cultural thing.

The comment stands as an indication that this has gone on for longer than you think.

Birth rates are falling across the world. Why?

Not all of the world - some of it.
Modern life, bills and wants figure. Take one country that has risen rapidly S Korea and the birth rate has dropped to alarming levels.
The UK started going to 2 salaries needed to buy a house yonks ago. Just needing part of the 2nd one didn't last long. Rental costs relates to house prices in general.

Another factor
In 2021, the average age of mothers who gave birth in England and Wales increased to 30.9 years, while the average age of fathers remained at 33.7 years.19 Jan 2023
There is loads on the NOS about this area.

Not easy to find average age of women giving birth in UK ~1960 but you'd probably find it ws ~23.

Cameron mentioned charity being responsible for people who fall below the net. He obviously didn't consider recent inflation. I wonder what effect that will have? We now have well used baby banks.

People not starting work until their thirties. Time they left school, went to sixth form college, had a gap year, done a university degree, had a gap year, done an honours degree, had a gap year, took time out about thinking what actual job they would like to do, find out that they can’t get a job they’d like to do, start work at Argos because mummy is threatening to switch off the WiFi. Those people can’t possibly find the time to knock out a child until they’ve completed at least level 132 of call of duty.

, he paid for it and refugees were preventing her from getting supported housing.
the system works on points
this includes desperation off needs
time on list
age off children
number off children
sex off children
all get points added
every point goes in your favour for position on the list
housing is precious and no refugee will get preference unless the points they have are the highest in the system and with time on the list giving a lot off points a refugee would need massive points added to hit the top off list as many years off waiting to climb the list that almost all have to do cannot be jumped by a newcommer

Oh that is just bloocks...

Have a quick look at : https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/GBR/united-kingdom/birth-rate

Birth rates have been declining for decades, you either want to pay for our own children to be born here or you want to import them. The really inescapable fact is if you want a country that can pay its way you need enough young to support the elderly. Which option do you want ?

If you want to know why... have a look at the bbc : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53409521

In essence we have put motherhood second to economic wealth. All hail the taxpayer.

What on earth do you think state education is...paying for somebody else children to be supported by the tax payer.

Raving nonsense seems to have taken hold in these forums.

And factually Mottie, some 76% of all those university degrees are completed by people in work.

Education of women.
And access to contraception and abortion.

Times and cultures change. The sexist and patriarchal society is on the wane.
People no longer see women as just an over-accommodating addition to a family. (The culture of Female Service)
They are more prepared to see women as independent, intelligent, high achievers, with much more to offer society and civilisation.
One repercussion of that is the later average age of women having their first child. Consequently a woman's child bearing lifespan is reduced, and they have their own careers and interests to follow, and their own needs and emotions are considered.

In addition, as most asylum seekers are apparently young single men, they would not get any points awarded.

Have you, (or Odds, Mitch, diy_fun_uk, et al) ever had a discussion with these women, or asked them why they have several children?
Is there any data to support your assumptions?
Or is it just some urban myth spread by the Red Top media?

Loads of times back in the day on social housing contracts. Another often heard comment during their conversations was "If I have a boy next time they gotta give me another bedroom" (or girl for instance).

Let's not let facts get in the way of prejudice though
