This problem is going to end me

Your video, Rory......is that the engine trying to start at first (reluctantly) or is it running all the time? Its the change in tone I notice.
John :)

Certainly, an egr stuck open can cause hot idle problems.....but you say you've replaced yours. Was it a new one, or just cleaned?
Trouble is, we haven't identified whether it is the same cylinder misbehaving or not - if the injectors will come out of the head, their performance is easy enough to check by a diesel specialist.

hi folks new to the forum and saw this while browsing and i am 99% sure exactly what the issue is.

i watched the vid and read all the comments and it is almost the exact same issue i had with my old corsa SRI... bear with me.

engine would sound rough as hell when starting usually, at roundabouts and junctions almost total loss of power for several seconds usually, i had the issue for many many months went through all the nonsense of diagnostic checks, replacing plugs, replacing EGR valve, even went as far as booking it into bosch injection specialists for them to troubleshoot costs were getting stupid as they wanted paid by the hour.... eventually pulled it out after the second day almost giving up.

ended up talking to some young kid at the vauxhall dealership he suggested the problem was sticky valves came back with a can of stuff that went through the airbox while revving the hell out of the car lots of thick white smoke...... best tenner i ever spent, never had any issues after that.

just a thought to try before you go mad throwing money at it... Sticky valves was the problem all along.

OP's car is a diesel. Doubt if spraying anything in the air box while revving the nuts out of it would do anything but damage.

I recall when Ford first brought out their 16v Zetec motor, on the last of the Escort range.....sticking valves all the while.
Initially they replaced the cylinder heads under warranty, and then introduced a model specific oil which sorted things - even work for me at the local Pattersons, there were so many.
GDi motors are having similar issues I believe but I haven't heard of diesel problems - which doesn't say they aren't happening......keep the muck inside the engine!
I can't add anything more to help with Rory's problem, unfortunately but I would have done a compression test by now.

it lubricates the engine and all moving parts, you have to give high revs while putting it through the engine or the engine would cut out.
diesel and petrol engines are basically the same only differance is the process in how the fuel gets ignited.
it doesn't damage the engine at all... no reason why high revs would kill any engine that wasn't borked beforehand.

but anyhoo you obviously know best.

So you think the small fact that the compression ratio in a Diesel engine won’t be a problem when spraying a 'can of stuff' onto the intake while 'revving the hell' out of it? That sounds really technical. Go ahead and try it.
