Thumb-turn cylinder in a double-glazed door

I've seen the 5 lever BS locks for wooden doors and 5 point locking MPL's for upvc but they've been common place for years, never seen the 'take key out and hide it' stipulation though
We always take the key out of the patio door when we go out. Front door key stays in during the night.

My primary concern is safety and means of egress so I have thumb turns on mine.

they have to smash their way out
Resulting in even more mess to clear up?

I had a car stereo nicked once, screwdriver hammered into the door lock, rived the lock barrel out the door, tearing the metal and bending the door skin..

Car wasn't even locked; I'd have preferred the aholes to just lift the handle, open the door, nick the stereo and not leave me a trashed door
