I thought it was a wind-up.
Apparently not.
The report claims the 1985 Weights and Measures Act - which makes it an offence for traders to use imperial without metric - has “long been identified as an example of overly prescriptive EU regulation”. They say the legislation should be amended to scrap such a requirement.

Although to be fair, any legislation wouldn't insist on imperial measurements being used, it would only be an option that traders could adopt if they wished.

It'll be nice in schools, where the most violent upheaval in my lifetime is still ongoing; and when academic performance is at its lowest for 50 years, we'll chuck half the curriculum up in the air again. On the altar of 'taking back control'. Genius.

On reflection, it won't affect schools. Or anyone else. It won't happen.

Of course it won't happen, non story. At worst, a greengrocer will probably not face prosecution for selling someone 'arf a pand' of carrots.
Anyway, has imperial ever gone away?, the road signs I see all indicate miles, and a horse racing commentary will always refer to a distance in 'furlongs' a cricket pitch has always been 22 yards.

Builders and engineers will continue to work in metres and millimetres.

I don't follow horse racing so I have absolutely no idea how long a furlong is.
 
Will youngsters stop asking for 3.5 grams of weed and go back to asking for an eighth?

that's not because it's (more) difficult.

It's because their minds are resistant to learning.

Imagine the impossibility of trying to teach them how many square feet are in a square furlong.

Or how many pints in a ton of water.

Even filly could be taught to calculate square metres in a square kilometer

Or how many litres in a tonne of water.
