A transistor 'transforms' voltage, as does a resitive divider, or an optocoupler, or many other componets. How ambiguous do you want the word to be?

It's not me being ambiguous, it is those who describe a "wire-wound iron core voltage transformer" as merely A transformer and exclude all other forms of transformer as NOT transformers.

Yes, but that does not make a transformer in the electrical sense.

A transformer works by electro magnetic induction and DOES NOT change frequency.
