Tesla Insurance was cheaper this year and the model I am looking to replace it with, was cheaper still to ensure, despite being quicker and obviously more expensive due to being new.
BMW was more expensive. Seems odd how they price. I understood its due to capacity to insure at the time of renewal.
mates tesla went up from less than 500 to over 1000 , with no change in details

This was what I was bracing for.

But my quote for Model 3 Performance 2024 was just over 720 quid. My mates model Y dual motor is £900.

There has been an increase in insurance costs just down to an increase in the cost of spares. The dreaded inflation.

Mine went down when something was done about the new customer discount and now back up to similar levels due to the above. I did have a scrape at one point and lost 12months no claims. That didn't result in much of a premium increase. Stupid me. Had to park in a tricky position for a dental appointment. Rather minor damage but a panel was marked and as a result replaced. It could have gone to some one who would have minimised the mark and used filler etc. Much cheaper but needs different skills.

I don't like the way the system works. Repair time hours are set by some group or the other. Pretty sure it's the Thatcham safety lot. This is why insurers have preferred repairers. It allows them methods of cutting costs and that can influence the standard of the repair. I know some one that worked at a Direct Line repair centre. What they do is offer the workers hefty bonuses for reducing the hours. Talking to him he is well aware that some of the things they do wont give that good a result on even newer cars. On older ones the results can look pretty stupid. They also train people on specific areas eg suspension work and that needs to be paid for regularly. This doesn't mean that a local garage can't do the same work. Those can charge the full hours for repair work and the insurance company can't argue with it so they do if insurance is involved.

What happened to the direct line worker. Footballer and severely damaged a tendon so could no longer keep up so went to work elsewhere. Then wondered about maintaining the costs of his qualifications.

so do you have a whole load of points for such high premiums, or is this a Tesla thing? I wonder what the price would be if you could remove the "FIRE" risk

Don't you reckon you have advanced driving qualifications and, if so, wouldn't declaring those reduce a premium?

Likelihood of being stolen will also be a factor in the cost of insurance.

As will likelihood of it being stripped, and the parts being sold on.

Also, perhaps tesla drivers are seen as being a lower risk than BMW drivers.

There's a lot of factors priced into insurance.

Maybe but usually it makes f*all difference… 10% off a quote that’s higher than shopping around.

No points. It’s down to the performance and repair costs risk. And maybe the sucker factor that you can load the premium by convincing people they are highly likely to catch fire.

going on the standard of driving I have seen by these so called 'advanced drivers' (or those who claim be) - I would add 50%
