Wales becomes Trumpton

and now it begins...

Drakeford said in interview yesterday, on the beeb, that individual villages and towns can apply to have "their" 20mph limit put up to 30 or more, if they so desire.

So, there'll be no uniformity, and no elimination of existing confusion (if any were present anyway).

Unless there are no applications from local councils to raise their speed limit.
Or if there are, they are roads that suggests a higher limit is appropriate, e.g dual carriage ways, etc.

No doubt they will have to fund it. until then the speed limit on such dual carriage ways will be 20mph. Get flashed doing 40mph and you are looking at a means tested fine, 6 points / a ban.

evidence says they achieve not much other than to reduce road capacity.

Did you read the quote that you provided?
Our findings showed that a city centre 20 mph intervention had little impact on long-term outcomes including road traffic collisions, casualties and speed, except for a reduction in traffic volume. Future 20 mph speed limit interventions should consider the fidelity [enforcement], context and scale of implementation.
A typical Welsh village is hardly a city centre.

Speed limits have to make sense otherwise they are ignored. Seems Drakeford has ignored all valid research on the failure of putting 20mph limits in places that make no sense.

I wouldn't have thought so but apparatus that traps speeders that is out of action makes it a bit harder.
Seems it's something you hadn't thought of.

Not at all relevant.

The point again. Speeding can still be enforced, even when the signs are ignored.

Why would anyone want someone to get a driving ban and possibly job loss, for driving at a safe speed for the conditions?

and to confirm - no signage = no enforceable limit.
