Was The 80s The King Of Silly Lyrics?

What was Marc Bolan smoking when he wrote this song?

Well, you're built like a car
You've got a hubcap diamond star halo
You're built like a car, oh yeah
Well, you're an untamed youth
That's the truth with your cloak full of eagles
You're dirty, sweet and you're my girl
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on.

LOL I think there were some decent pop music around until sometime in the 90's. Some by older artists and still popular. On Friday evenings I turn BBC2 on for a while for Top Of The Pops. Various years. Clearly there was none memorable crap around.

Words - poetry figure, some mad. Then comes a period of wailing ladies as I call them. Can't help comparing them with women such as Cher and others. Rock bands - so called grunge and similar became popular.

Top 10's are still around. Interesting that some older stuff is still selling.

John Lennon was fed up of fans and critics alike for taking apart the lyrics of his songs and decided to write 'I am the walrus' in response. "Let the fokkers' figure this one out", said he; dropping acid and reading Lewis Carroll at the time.
