The (4m long) stud sole is fixed thru the membrane, the fixing holes are sealed.
Is it wiser to fix the lower horiz. boards raised up slightly, off the membrane to prevent membrane damage? Or do boards need support along the lower edge, provided by the floor?
Thanks,
Dain
I`m going to remove an internal partition between my extension and need to stick a 152x89 beam to help support the flat joist roof.
Engineers confirmed that 152x89 is more than enough.
Do I need some sort of spreading plate or grout? How do I install it?
when the beam is in place how I will...
Hi,
I am building a half stud wall that I will be covering with 12mm ply and then plasterboard, then adding skirting once it’s had a skim. I was wondering if I need to leave a gap at the bottom of either covering like you would on a masonry wall? I would think not to leave a gap for the ply, but...
Hello
I need to replace a radiator on plasterboard that has been fixed to a block wall using dot & dab.
I presume its not a good idea to fix the radiator to just the plasterboard, using something like spring toggles, in case the dot & dab comes loose. So was planning to drill through into the...
Any recommendations? Screwfix do a roughneck but it's only 165mm wide, which isn't very generous considering the weight of a single sheet.
I have to shift some 12.5mm plasterboard on my own.
Thank y'all kindly.
Dain
New ground floor ceiling job, will probably use standard 12mm sq edge (voids have 100mm soundproofing Rockwool).
It wasn't possible to put put some outer joists immediately adjacent the wall but I got them fairly close. I could always add some 38x38 CLS brothers along joist btm edges to take...
Hi there,
I'll start with an apology - I'm sorry - you must be sick of this sort of question but I promise I have tried to find the answer online for hours!
I've just removed the tiles from my bathroom and it's made a right mess of the plasterboard (down to the paper etc). For most of it, we...
I think I know the answer to this but...
I have overboarded (underboarded?) my bathroom ceiling, made a hole and pulled through the shower cable for the pull isolator switch.
I think the old switch was just attached to the lath and plaster ceiling above, so no noggins / joists to screw into...
I'm having a go at patching cracks in the plasterboard walls / ceilings of my partners flat.
Having done some research, the plan was to dig out and expand the crack, cover with scrim tape then skim over and feather in. So far, so good.
As i go stuck into opening up the cracks (which are all...
Hi guys
We recently removed l skirting board for a new laminate floor, I have yet to add new skirting but I have noticed draughts coming from the chipped plasterboard on wall corners, in some places exposing the metal mesh underneath, please note picture b

Hey folks,
What is your advice with regards to this ?
It’s a plasterboard behind the mantelpiece which rests on two bolts. It has deteriorated due to heat. Do I need to break out the entire board around the crack and replace it, or just polyfilla the cracks and paint over ? There is a 5-6” gap...
Hi all,
My house dates back to about 1885.
Mid terraced, redbrick, lime pointing and plastered inside with lime plaster.
When carrying out some renovations I noticed a lot of blown plaster on the internal face of an external upstairs wall. I think that at some stage previous owners had used a...
Hi All,
Large sections of my bedroom wall (external) had blown plaster. I think that it’s a case of many years of non breathable paint and a modern skim coat had basically suffocated the wall. It’s a lime pointed solid wall, with internal lime render. Anyway, I’ve decided to strip it all off...
Hi all. Hope this is in the right place.
Ive got an interior wall I want to hang a screen on. The combined weight of screen plus arm mount is about 17KG or so.
The wall itself appears to be 2 pieces of 12mm plasterboard backed to each other, without a stud nearby (it possibly has those metal...
Hey,
I’ve recently been doing a rewire on our house and all the walls are dot & dabbed and the interior walls upstairs are simply 3 layers of plasterboard (the middle being slightly thicker). I’ve been cutting out the sockets and switches no problem until one switch I started cutting was a...
We've had our TV on the wall fine for the last 6 months On a swivel mount but the Mrs constantly moans that we can see the bracket of the arm so we've gone and bought a tilt bracket which is centered VonHaus 26-55" Tilt TV Wall Mount Bracket with Built-In Spirit Level for LED, LCD, 3D, Curved...
12mm PB going up on ceiling, what difference does it make wether twin or coarse?
Are twin/coarse intended for different purposes?
I had to shim the underside of joists with 9.5 ply strips, panel pin and pva fixed, so I'll probably use longer than the usual recommended 38mm (not that 38mm...
sq versus taper on ceilings?
Obviously, vertical taped joints would be essential where Dotty & Dabby are involved, as no skim to cover screw heads means that a taper recess is required to accommodate jointing compound.
If taper was put up on a ceiling you would obviously still have screw heads...
