15 year old war veteran...

Nick Adderley, of Northamptonshire Police, who has been accused of “building military naval legend” including the implication that he served in the Falklands War despite being just 15 when the conflict happened in 1982, was due to speak on the second day of the three-day hearing in Northampton.

However, after a short meeting with his defence team on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Adderley’s barrister Matthew Holdcroft said his client had decided not to give evidence “in light of legal advice given” in relation to potential criminal proceedings.

Updated my CV. (y)

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name
But what's puzzlin' you is the nature of my game
Stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tsar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank, held a general's rank
When the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name
Oh, yeah
Ah, what's puzzlin' you is the nature of my game
Aww, yeah
I watched with glee while your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades for the gods they made
I shouted out, "Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all, it was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reach Bombay
Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name
Oh, yeah
But what's puzzlin' you is the nature of my game
Aww, yeah
(Uh, get down heavy!)
Pleased to meet you, hope you'll guess my name
Aww, yeah
But what's confusin' you is just the nature of my game
Mmm, yeah
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails, just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me, have some courtesy
Have some sympathy and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste
Mmm, yeah
Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name
Mmm, yeah
But what's puzzlin' you is the nature of my game
A fake cv and a breach of copyright, sack that man

The lack of checks suggests they had decided to appoint him in advance of the interview so arguably no one was mislead

And is MBK saying that can only happen in the private sector? I was struggling with what he was getting at in his OP. Hopefully he will clarify this later.
I don't know what you did/do for a living, so you may be unaware that many roles in both the public and private sector are subject to vetting. Whether that is for security in Defence work, confidentiality risk in pharmaceuticals or fraud prevention in Financial services. Many companies do this routinely for all applicants. I've been vetted many times and at various levels (btw you aren't supposed to disclose your levels so don't ask). I've also vetted candidates I'm hiring and you will be amazed at how good the companies are at finding "errors". The Police do have a slightly different standard to that used for defence, but nevertheless these lies should have been detected. So there is a clear vetting failure.

In the Private sector any person known to have lied on their CV will usually be instantly dismissed. Not to do so puts the organisation itself in danger. I've sat on numerous independent appeals processes and you will be amazed. The number who claim fake military service, degrees, PhDs etc and you will be amazed at the shock when the company sues for damages.

Thanks, that's all very interesting.

There is a mention at the end of the article that he might be prosecuted, but it doesn't say what for. I did read something else yesterday which gave a bit more info, but I've forgotten what it said!

he is also under investigation for fraud regards police vehicles maintenance while at staffordshire police

It seems there was no (in depth) vetting because he was an established police officer moving from a different force.

Vetting is time bound depending on the level obtained. It expires and has to be renewed.

Depending on the level of security clearance required they also vett family members and partners even if they are abroad!

The hearing has been adjourned while they track down the author of two books which includes quotes from the accused. The accused has refused to be questioned and answer the authenticity of the quotes.

I've always found it funny how plod moan about those who go "no comment".

Not looking good.
