If an officer is found guilty of fraudulent behavior then he could have been compromised in previous legal dealings, according to the cold case tv shows :)
 
The hearing has been adjourned while they track down the author of two books which includes quotes from the accused. The accused has refused to be questioned and answer the authenticity of the quotes.

I've always found it funny how plod moan about those who go "no comment".

This isn't a corruption allegation though. (Unless there is some other story I haven't read).

There are grounds to refer convictions as unsafe if the officers involved have been found to be corrupt. The famous case was DS Derek Ridgewell who had a long career of fitting innocent people up.
 
If falsifying records is a sackable offence, then you could probably count on one hand the number of members of either houses of parliament that would still be in situ!
