Private schools, whether you like them, or not are a business. Usually successful, and usually effective at their aim, but still a business.

Why should any business be vat exempt on services ?

Pay the vat, the schools will still be there.

But phase it in gradually so they have time to adapt.

Luxuries would be things which state pupils could only dream of. Like swimming pools, squash courts, indoor tennis courts, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not too concerned if it is or isn't. I pay vat on everything i need, home or work (unless its vat exempt like food etc).

Nobody said I could start paying it in stages.

But if it was brought in in stages, I'd be OK with it

The point is though, it's a service, by a business, and the country needs the taxes. No reason for it not to be levied

Nor me. In fact our local pool that was used by all the schools is now closed.

I am not sure what you mean by luxury facilities, anything educational or ancillary to the educational is not by definition a luxury.

I've actually found one now with a pool. It's in an academy school which until about ten years ago was a private school (so they already had it).

But I have just read that the last Labour government actually built 1,000 new school swimming pools. I had no idea! There must be at least one around here which I haven't spotted yet.

You really have no idea or you're pretending. Many hard working families and parents sacrifice alot to put their kids through private education it's nothing to do with the rich and elite per se. These are the ones that will suffer.

They will name a date for it to be implemented. TBH I don't think it will make much difference to their uptake.
