There will be calls for a specific criminal offence when the inquiry report is published but little or nothing will happen, maybe a watered down general “duty” introduced.

I've heard reports - from the judge who headed the contaminated blood inquiry - that he will be recommending a statutory "duty of candour" on public officials.
A legal duty to tell the truth.
Taken to its logical conclusion, like the shock headlines of risking jail for leaving your bins out - the offence actually being "not complying with the terms of the asbo" - it's not the initial crime that gets you jailed, but the lying afterwards.

False accounting would be ironic and just.

Was she under oath? for those committees.

@blup MPs have various protections not afforded to the citizen, even powerful CEO
She may be in contempt of parliament for misleading parliament, whether under oath or not, but I cant find any real penalties for that. The CPS need to find a finance related offence and push that. Unlike the USA which has offences (and draconian penalties) for pretty much everything business related (as Trumpf is discovering) the UK doesn't seem to, so it will probably go nowhere.

Being under oath is important, because the offence requires it.

Anyone on here believe her? I don’t, and I don’t believe those crocodile tears either.

Absolutely not. Talk about the rabbit being caught in the headlights. So how many others knew what was going on?

Her tears are for herself, because she has been caught out. I have absolutely no sympathy for her, and especially so as she is a church minister - how she managed to rationalise going to church, knowing what she was allowing to happen to those Post Office people, is completely beyond me.

Evil wicked cow, needs to do time and all her assets to be siezed and shared out amongst the victims, along with everyone who was compliant in this scandal.
I know personally our local postmaster/mistress, my daughter used to go out with one of their son's, they has two boys and a girl, lovely family would help anyone out, salt of the earth, when this hit them it split the family, he turned to the demon drink and died penniless in a sqalid bedsit.
His wife moved away and has managed to re build her life, I do not know how the childeren have got on but did hear one of the boys was into drugs, and the girl can't hold down a job through depression. For this to happen to such genuine people is criminal.

She probably didn't give evidence on oath to the parliamentary committee because the case didn't have the profile it has now, and she was called at short notice. Even if she did, she would argue it wasn't intentional, and might persuade a jury. I'm thinking of the phone hacking cases where some were found guilty and others not on what appeared to be the same or similar evidence.

Being de frocked by Wellby is probably the closest to justice she will get.

I 100% agree. Mind you, all sorts fall into this bracket ...

Depressing POV......

Depressing but spot on. The post office will probably have its powers to prosecute transferred to the CPS, and some meaningless duty brought in for company execs. Then business as usual.

The truth is, she was just a totally ruthless individual, who cared not a jot for her fellow man. The tears are simply tears of frustration, that she has been caught out, and called to account.

News sources say that a team of 80 plod is being assembled to pursue criminal prosecutions against senior post office staff and possibly Fujitsu. But the work wont start until after the inquiry completes in 2025. It's great that they are being considered for prosecution, but they have been effectively given 12 months+ notice to burn and shred everything.
