Woman on news this morning saying that herself and others are hoping to have charges quashed today.
About time.
But even if they are, they have to battle on for compensation which could easily take a year or more.
She said that the PO told her she was the only one who was having trouble with the system. She said that as social media wasn't as developed or subscribed to, it was not easy to find out if others were having issues, but searching the internet brought other cases to light and then she knew the PO were lying to her.
She told how she reported a shortfall of £2000 to the PO and a technical guy came out to her and looked at the system. Somehow the £2K doubled to £4K. The PO geezer scratched his head and said it would come out in the wash. It didnt. She put her own money in to try and zero the deficit, but it carried on getting bigger. Next thing she knew, the PO were accusing her of theft.
She said she was extremely lucky as her whole village turned up.in court in support of her and this was why the judge did not jail her, but others were shunned by their customers. Some took out loans to pay off their "shortfalls", others sold their properties.
Fujitsu and the PO should face severe consequences over this. It's an absolute disgrace, to say nothing of the poor people who killed themselves over it.
How can it be that the Postmasters get jailed for "stealing", but when it is proved that the PO system is flawed, effectively stealing money from the Postmasters, nothing happens to Fujitsu or the PO.
The whole thing stinks.
