According to the UK's Home Office, France receives a much larger number of asylum seekers than Britain – around 113,000 in the year ending March 2022, compared to some 67,000 in the UK Those who arrive in France are to be found scattered across many different parts of the country, with many of them choosing to remain ...5 May 2023
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The UK received 74,751 asylum applications – from 89,398 people and their dependents – in 2022, according to Government figures, the highest annual figure since 2002.

This does not include Ukrainian nationals, of whom about 154,500 had arrived in the UK last year under two schemes created by the Home Office following Russia’s invasion.

This number places the UK as the fifth highest country in terms of asylum applications in Europe in 2022, according to figures by Eurostat, behind Germany, France, Spain and Austria.

Figures show Germany received almost two-and-a-half times the 89,398 asylum claims the UK got last year – a total of 217,735 from first time asylum applicants. France received 137,505, Spain 116,140 and Austria 106,375 in the same time period. European figures also take dependents into account.

Those figures also do not include Ukrainian refugees, of which more than one million arrived in Germany last year and similar numbers also registered for support in Poland.

I think it's good UK has taken less illegals than other countries. The Doctors, engineers and nurses that we need are in the legal 750000. These boat people are a net loss to us. Fewer the better.
But what to do with them?

The 2 options appear to be
1, ignore them, let them go somewhere else. (Where ? ) Or
2, process them and return them if they don't qualify

I note you don't post the source of your opening commentary, a lobby group perhaps? it contradicts your data and you repost data that has already been discussed. Let me just help you with those sums then:

Applicants (not approvals)
113,000 or is 137,505? (you post contradictory data) - France of which over 70% are declined.
89,398 + 154,500 UK = 243,898 of which over 70% are approved

So the UK does in fact receive more than double France and once you account for the approval rate, it's much, much higher. Glad you are up to speed now.
Tell mottie and MBK. They've been told by their favourite rag, that 'they're all coming here', FFS.

Lol.
and you have also now confirmed this. To think, without your help, we were led to believe France gets 3X more claimants than the UK, by some immigration policy expert useful idiot.

How do you process and return someone who has destroyed their ID and refuses to cooperate? How do you force a country to take back an undocumented person?

I don’t think it acceptable that they fund criminal gangs and risk their lives getting from one safe country to another. Do you?
So you want to make it easier for them to get here to claim asylum.

You missed out

6) we have a lot of thick f##kers here to support

You can strip an economy down to the basics of land, labour, capital and entrepreneurs.

To grow an economy you need to expand one of those factors or become more efficient in the use of these factors of production.

Land being natural resources - we spent our gas reserves on tax cuts - Thanks Maggie.

Labour - that is our stock of people and their skills - with an aging population and automation eating into many jobs this requires Government intervention.

Capital - well that's the investment capital as well as capital goods

Entrepreneur

We criminally under invest in this country from public transport, public infrastructure, public services etc. So where do investors park their capital - well in fixed assets such as land and property.

  • The annual number of asylum applications to the UK peaked in 2002 at 84,132. After that the number fell sharply to reach a twenty-year low point of 17,916 in 2010. It rose steadily throughout the 2010s, then sharply from 2021 onwards to reach 81,130 applications in 2022, the highest annual number since 2002.
  • The 81,130 applications made in 2022 related to 99,939 individuals (main applicants and dependents).

Tories love asylum seekers - its the issue that keeps on giving them oxygen. It keeps the public distracted and angry whilst the country burns.

Not enough NHS appointements - blame the asylum seekers
Not enough School places - blame the asylum seekers
Crime - blame the asylum seekers

etc etc

Asylum seekers are a useful tool for the grifters in power.
