Same here, mainly because I'm always doing stuff, so I don't wear any jewelry apart from a short necklace with my wedding ring on it.

I feel naked without a watch on my wrist.
Years ago I scratched my lovely Sekio watch given to me as a present by my ex - it really hurt. I'm left-handed so my watch is more at risk.
The three watches I have are all scratch resistant as well as being water-resistant etc and I look after my stuff but must wear a watch when out and never at home.

Every mechanical watch I ever had stopped, including a fully refurbished ex-military Rolex I had in the 1970s (for all of 3 weeks). The watchmaker wore it, no problems - I put it on, dead within a few hours, so back to the watchmaker, about 6 times in total. Cheap battery watches were much more reliable, but in the end when mobile phones came along, I put my last watch away and I've not worn a watch in more than 25 years, I don't miss them - too easy to scratch, too fragile, too likely to catch on something when I'm working
As I'm left-handed, I did try and wear my watch on my right had in my first job but it did not feel right and I left that place within 2 weeks.
Since then I've just had office type work, so it was not a problem but I do recall banging my hand hard down on the table during a team meeting years ago and then I thought, OMG, I hope I've not damaged my kinetic watch - the batteries on those coat loads of money.

I regularly wear a £4000 omega seamaster planet ocean, I've worn it all over the world including some less than scenic places and apart from a couple of knock off watch sellers in Malaysia who commented on what it was from about 15m away and asked if they could have a look no ones ever commented on it.
I find paying attention to where I am instead of walking around with my head in my phone paying no attention keeps it in its place, most people who get mugged or pickpocketed in various situations simply aren't paying enough attention, there's very few reasons someone needs to walk within a metre of me or brush up against me so I make sure it doesn't happen

A few years ago, I was standing outside a pub using my phone. I noticed a group of dodgy looking young people eyeing me. As one approached me I put the phone in my pocket . He asked me what the time was. I pulled up my sleeve and read the time according to my £15 Casio watch from Argos. He frowned and walked off.
I am certain that he hoped that I would pull my phone out to tell him the time and that he hoped grab it and leg it.
I could not imagine not wearing a watch. And, as an old git, I don't need to have my glasses on to see the time on my watch. Oh, and the battery lasts much longer than my phone.
Ordinarily, I only take my watch off to clean it.

I had a fake tan once. No one could tell the difference I told them all about my holiday to Mexico when I had only been to Clacton.
i used to look at Oyster Quartz in shop windows. I gained the impression my wife was going to buy me one as a surprise. Not happy about the cost but wonder some times now. So I bought a used one from Singapore via ebay, I still have it but not worn much,
LOL when it arrived it had a really minor fault. Seller agreed to pay for a fix and then it got complicated. An official Rolex repairer wont touch a quartz as they have to guarantee the work for 12nonths and worry that the electronics might fail. Others not keen for the same reason. They cost a packet, So all said send it to Rolex, I forked out for a service and the seller refunded 1/2 the cost which I thought fair enough really as the service is more work. Solved another problem as well - it came with no papers but now I know it is genuine.

The thing is; the locals couldn't understand my Mexican Spanish.
I have a couple of Omega's - a Speedmaster '57 broad arrow and a Seamaster Pro ceramic. I chop and change the straps and I have leather, bracelet, waterproof leather and nato straps so it feels like I have a dozen watches. I wear one or the other all the time except for when I'm working on cars. I don't worry about being mugged for them as I don't go to the sort of places where I'm likely to be robbed but if I was robbed, I'd just give them up and let the insurance worry about it - I like them but they're not worth getting stabbed for!

Good on you but sadly the desperate few will insist on walking up to the victim and often carry a knife. I think a prince from Sauida Arabia had left a knight club in Knistsbrige or thereabout and his hotel was a few yeards away and the mugger struck and stabed and murdered the guy for some very expensive watch that I think I'd never heard about.

I my OP the thread was about the dangers of many people wearing fake watches of some well know expensive brands like Rolex etc. Weddings I've been to I've noted more and more people with watches possibly costing 5/10k and it was one our sons that told me that most of those youngsters are wearing fake watches as they are so cheap in Dubai and more and more people visit the place they often bring back 3/4 watches and some sell them on as fakes for a few quid profit.
It is sad when you can't wear what you want for fear of being robbed.
I've only the one, it's not something I'd of ever bought myself but I bought it from some money my mam left me when she died, it wasn't enough money to make a real difference on my mortgage, it would of bought a nice holiday but I think no matter how hard you try holiday memories fade so I decided to buy something as a keepsake and it'll be there to pass on in the future.
I need to get it serviced but I've not had the courage to ask for a price yet
