Ukraine counter offensive

Germany refuse to give Ukraine Taurus cruise missiles

This is yet another shortsighted attitude of the West: they want Ukraine to push Russia out but won’t provide the equipment to do the job

Apparently they are concerned Taurus missiles could reach Moscow, which is mad given Taurus has a 300 mile range and Moscow is 800 miles from the Ukraine front line

Ford Taurus = european ford cortina , defo make more than 300 miles just not on one tank of petrol

One Ukrainian brigade had defended the same block of industrial buildings for months without a break. Another had been in Avdiivka for nearly the entire two years of the war, bone-tired but with no replacements to relieve them. Ammunition was low, and the Russians conducted dozens of airstrikes every day, using “glide bombs” to obliterate even fortified positions.

Russian soldiers came in waves: First lightly armed grunts, to force the Ukrainian defenders to spend precious bullets, followed by well-trained soldiers. Sometimes there were ambushes involving special forces or saboteurs who popped out of tunnels. As morale plummeted, a battalion commander — in charge of hundreds of men — vanished under murky circumstances, according to law enforcement documents seen by The Associated Press. One of the soldiers with him was found dead. The commander and another soldier with them haven’t been seen since.

The battles for Mariupol and Bakhmut are well known but the fighting in and around Avdiivka has been largely ignored since the start of the war. The only way out was to get wounded, go to jail or die. If the West fails to supply these troops with ammunition and supplies it will all have been for nothing.

This war is so topsy turvy. A few weeks ago it was all doom and gloom. Russia had bested the West by using mass produced cheap and cheerful weapons and developing counter measures to make our modern weapons useless. Then the US finally resupplies the advanced weapons and tweaks the rules of engagement, and now it's Ukraine on the front foot, wiping out Russia's artillery and air defences seemingly at will. It makes me wonder what would have happened if Trump's malign influence over his brown nosers in Congress hadn't delayed this initiative by the best part of a year.

Tens of thousands fewer Ukrainian lives lost. Faster depletion of Russian equipment.

There are some estimates saying Russia should be at the bottom of their financial and military stockpiles by the end of the year. If the US handed over a couple hundred more Abrams and Bradleys Ukraine could start to push back again.

But by prolonging the war the US has made sure more Russian fighters are taken out of the equation in the event of a NATO/Russian battlefield conflict??

The first few weeks of the war proved that the Russian paper tiger was made of very cheap paper indeed.

They'd get obliterated against NATO in any conventional war.

Giving the US the credit of a master plan is doing them too much credit. The GOP blocked aid because they wanted to hurt Biden, not Putin.

Probably so but less Russians less allies deaths

And on past experiences US wouldn't turn up for 2 years by which time it should all be over so no US deaths

They would be even less effective now, although they're now practiced at drone warfare which NATO haven't even started to get to grips with.

Poland would eat Russia for breakfast.
