I've avoided Ukraine threads. A somewhat different view came to me when a conversation by Boris was leaked by some politician or the other. He was asked if the anti tank stuff original stuff sent would help Ukraine win. Answer no it will make things very difficult for the Russians. Then comes the US defence secretary's comments. The LSE have collected this whole area together

I'm not condoning Russia's actions but the geopolitical aspects concern me. It was easy to find that link.

The US strategy for regime change in Moscow has been long in preparation. In 2013 (before Ukraine’s President Yanukovych was overthrown in 2014) , Carl Gershman, Director of National Endowment for Democracy* (NED), wrote: “Ukraine is the biggest prize.” He explained that if it could be pulled away from Russia and into the West, “Putin may find himself on the losing end not just in the near abroad but within Russia itself.
This larger strategy for containing Russia is the context to understand the expansion of Nato members all along Russia’s borders, from the Baltics to Bulgaria, and the presence of 30,000 Nato-designated troops. It also helps understand the US and some other western states’ military intervention to overthrow Syria’s ruler, Bashar al-Assad, Russia’s ally, as well as the policy of encouraging US NGOs to foment unrest in Russia.

*The National Endowment for Democracy is a quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization in the United States founded in 1983 to advance democracy worldwide, by promoting political and economic institutions, such as political groups, trade unions, free markets, and business groups.

It's a proxy war and rather well run and started - end of.

Syria is a case of US aid to a group that didn't work out. They found themselves having to take on both the Syrian forces and the ISIS fraction. Later the Kurds were used to control ISIS. That upset Turkey. Net effect is a refugee camp that non one will ever take people out of as well indoctinated by ISIS even kids - especially the kids.

London (AP) — Russia is rebuilding its capacity to destabilize European countries and extend its influence in the Middle East and Africa, posing a strategic threat to NATO as its members focus on the war in Ukraine, a U.K.-based think tank said Tuesday. In a sweeping report, researchers at the Royal United Services Institute argue that Western nations need to do more to counter Moscow’s use of unconventional warfare if they are to succeed in turning back Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“As the war in Ukraine protracts, Russia has an interest in creating crises further afield,’’ authors Jack Watling, Oleksandr V. Danylyuk and Nick Reynolds wrote, citing the Balkans as a region that is ripe for mischief. Using documents obtained from Russian secret services and interviews with official bodies in Ukraine and some European states, the report weaves a narrative of Russia’s efforts to extend its influence beyond the present conflict in Ukraine. “Similarly, the apparent contrast in Western language and rhetoric between how it described the destruction of Aleppo or Mariupol, and how it has excused Israeli operations in Gaza, leave many on the continent perceiving a gap between Western rhetoric about values and the values practiced by those who have, for so long, imposed constraints on the policies of African states to enforce values-based norms.’’

Russia is an oil based economy, oil and gas provide almost half of Russias federal budget.

Ukraine is attacking oil refineries in Russia using drones…those big tanks are easy targets.
Ukraine plans mass production of drones that can destroy targets up to 1,000km away, theoretically bringing Moscow and St Petersburg into range.
To give an idea of the reliance on drones, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, said that in 2023 alone, domestic drone production rose to 300,000 drones, and this didn’t include foreign donations. The target this year is to make over a million drones, with at least half the components locally made, in an effort to offset waning United States support for Ukraine.

Despite EU sanctions an estimate by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) think-tank, says Russia can now produce 125 tanks per month, more than enough to replace those destroyed in recent fighting; so boosting Ukrainian defence manufacturing in drones and artillery ammunition is now considered a national priority.Ukraine needs an extra 240,000 shells a month to even keep pace with Russia. One Ukrainian soldier recently noted, in an interview with Politico, that the accuracy of artillery units increased by 250 percent when paired with drones.

Drone Wars: the future for a 21st century battlefield.

Pakistan is making shells for Ukraine, that's why the US did a coup to overthrow Imran Khan as he objected to this.
I am surprised, the perception among the public in this country,is that only foreign dictators engage in this sort of behaviour.

Sounds like Israel in Gaza.
During those first months of the invasion the Russian troops turned on civilians prompting calls for indictment on war crimes and genocide - but when the Zionists do it, those calls are denied by western governments. It all depends on which team you support.

As a rule of thumb.
Only the losers are war criminals.
Tony Blair would fit the definition of a war criminal.
The only 'punishment' he received was a Knighthood and standing ovation in Parliament.

The US UK tie up is interesting. One early theory is help with keeping our credit rating where it is. Then comes weapons.
I'd say this is generally correct.

ABC news has further analysis on the second anniversary of the Russian invasion...

“The US strategy for regime change in Moscow has long been in preparation” - that’s opinion not evidence

Ukraine is the biggest prize
Given USA and the West has spent its time from before 2022 until now being constantly reluctant to supply the equipment for Ukraine to win, all they’ve done is constantly give too little too late

Vinty hates Tony Blair because he negotiated peace with IRA Sinn Fein.

The reality is Tomy Blair is not a war criminal, he was just a puppet to the USA and any leader would’ve done the same
