As PBC pointed out, stubob must be talking about the new light, not the old.
Yes, I suppose that must be the case - although the comment about cable colours to which stubob was (presumably) replying was posted nearly two hours before we saw a picture of the new fitting.

On the old fitting it is definitely blue, it is not grey.

I realise that cameras can lie, particularly about colours, but I really can't see how anyone could say that it was "definitely blue", since it surely looks like grey in the photos?

It must either be my eyes or my screen, then! I obviously can't say that it's definitely not blue, but, to be frank, if the suggestion about blue had never been made, I don't think it would have even occurred to me to regard it as anything other than grey!

Actually, looking at it carefully again, I agree it's blue.
It seems to have been forgotten today when dark (or at least mid) blue neutrals abound, but when the U.K. originally adopted brown & blue the specification for neutral was always for light blue, and that's what was actually used in the earlier years. While in normal lighting they were most definitely blue, they could sometimes be a kind of light greyish-blue. I think the lighting in the photo rather washed out the blue somewhat making it appear more grey.
With a very slight tweak to the color balance:
And now looking back at the original, at least on my monitor I can quite clearly see the blue tint I missed on first glance, especially where the light is slightly different inside the shroud of the terminal. So it looks as though somebody wired the light fitting up reversed.

Nope, if you look, it was just an old style spot bar, with either r50 or r80 lamps.
And in any case, you could not pay me to put a fluorescent light fitting anywhere in my house (besides loft & garage space)
