Worcester + Wave = constantly running pump ??

Jreb, you seem to be on to something and it makes perfect sense that the Software update is at fault (I'm on 02.19.01). It did seem odd that the new wave instantly worked and then 1 week later the pump fault re-occured. I have just called WB to find out when the latest update happened and how long it would take for a new device with old software to be updated, but Technical couldn't assist, so awaiting a call back from a Wave specialist.

Hey Brett, what version is the software for you now? And is it operating correctly or still a bit broken?

I'm on 02.19.01 and the pump continues to run 24/7. I work from home in a converted garage office where the boiler is also situated, so by manually lowering the wave temperature by 1ºc from it's set temp, it turns the pump off and I can work in peace.

Yeah, having exactly the same problem. Day and night, 100% wasn’t always like this I’m sure and becoming pretty annoying!

Never received a call back from WB wave specialist, but had the usual friendly engineer visit this morning. He says he's been advised that it's probably a wave algorithm issue. He thinks WB may revert all waves to the old software, I guess until the software issue can be resolved. Fingers Crossed!

Heard back today that they are actively looking at the problem but they have no idea on timeline, so have offered to fit a new wave at the weekend. I assume it won’t auto download the shoddy current version after a few days :)

I think the bug is actually also causing the wave to misread the temp, so it rarely gets up to heat and that contributes to the pump always being on.

Out of interest how hot should the boiler get? I’ve noticed today that the number on the boiler has been getting up to 72-73 for short periods and when it’s that high the pressure goes from the usual 1.5 bar to around 1.8. I don’t usually see the temp but wondered if that was normal or possibly as a result of the wave bug, which is telling the boiler it is cooler than it actually is and the boiler is going hell for leather to get up to the (wrong) temp.

Thanks
James

Did you get a new Wave installed yesterday Brett? Did it fix the problem?

The boiler will heat the primary flow up to whatever the central heating set point is set to via the boiler user interface. Once the room temperature is close to the room temperature set point the power requested by the Wave will start to drop from for 100% that will result in the primary temperature falling away from the set point.

New wave fitted with 2.18.2 software and problem seems to be fixed! Gets up to heat, fan goes off! Hurrah! Now if it updates to 2.19.1 I’m going to be calling for another one :)

James, I see no reason why it won't update! Sorry

If I don't get an update fix for mine by the end of the week, I'll be looking for the WB complaints dept telephone number.

Yeah, I fear you are right! Though they did suggest they aren’t pushing updates until it is fixed so will wait and see... they will be out again if it updates and is broken ;)

Hurrah, 6 days later and it updated to 2.19.1 this evening and the problem seems to be back straight away. Guess I’ll phone tomorrow! They will be giving me a lot of Waves if they only last a week before breaking again!

Let me know how you get on with the complaints department please Brett.

I will be phoning this morning to find out the next step... give me another new wave, roll back the current one or give me a non smart thermostat until this is fixed. Getting fed up with it now.
